Finding joggers that fit a child comfortably isn't always as simple as picking their age from a size chart. Children grow at different rates, and sometimes their waist fits one size while their legs need another. Here’s how I’d take a few measurements before choosing a pair.
What to measure
Use a soft tape measure and let your child stand comfortably. Measure around their natural waist without pulling the tape tight. For leg length, measure the inside of the leg from the crotch down to where you’d like the joggers to finish. It can help to measure a pair they already like, too, and compare it with the measurements on the joggers’ product page. If your child is between sizes, check both the waist and leg length rather than choosing by age alone.
Leave room to grow, without losing the fit
A little growing room can be lovely, especially for clothes they’ll wear often. But simply going up an age size may leave the waist too loose or the legs too long. When my children were little, they often grew taller before they grew wider. With cuffed joggers that offer a custom leg-length option, asking for an extra inch or two in the leg can leave some growing room without making the waist bigger. Check the options on the particular pair before ordering, and choose an amount that will still be comfortable for your child now. If your child needs a non-standard fit, or their waist and leg measurements point to different sizes, look at the sizing options on the individual product page. Where custom sizing is offered, you can give me the measurements requested there so I can make the joggers with your child’s fit in mind.
Which jogger style suits them?
There’s more than one way to wear joggers. A baggy fit gives a relaxed look and plenty of ease for everyday play. A dropped-crotch style without pockets has its own slouchy shape and a simpler finish. If you prefer a more familiar look, standard cuffed joggers with pockets are an easy everyday choice. Check the style and fit details on the pair you’re looking at, as the shape can make just as much difference as the size.
Easy ways to wear them
Joggers don’t need a complicated outfit. Pair them with a T-shirt for an easy everyday look, or add a hoodie or sweatshirt when it’s cooler. A playful print can do the talking, while a simple top lets the colour and shape of the joggers stand out.
Choose a fabric you love
For styles that offer a fabric choice, have a look through my Fabric Library for the prints and colours currently available. You can choose a fabric for the joggers and, where the matching options are available, pair them with a hoodie, sweatshirt or T-shirt for a coordinated outfit. I’ll be adding more fabric choices to the library, so it’s worth checking what’s available when you order.
If you’re unsure which size or style to choose, start with your child’s measurements and check the details on the pair you like. That’s a much better guide than an age label on its own. Browse my joggers and bottoms to find a style you like.
